Luxury Hotels Open in Tokyo
日本語
The
marvelous Conrad Hotels, which are owned by the Hilton Group
and offer western style luxury service, has expanded their
business to Tokyo. The Conrad Tokyo opened July 2004 in Shiodome.
The hotel offers 290 rooms and suites boasting to have the
largest rooms in Tokyo. Accommodation rates start from \52,000
a night. The hotel is located in front of the Hamarikyu Garden
and has a nice view of the bay area.
The Conrad Tokyo has opened, but this is just
the beginning of the luxury hotel boom. This autumn, the Mandarin
Oriental Tokyo is scheduled to open in Nihonbashi. The Mandarin
Hotel Group is also opening hotels in Hong-Kong, Singapore,
and New York City. The Peninsula will open near Hibiya Park
and the Imperial Palace in 2007. Plus, the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo,
known worldwide as a luxury five star hotel, will be opening
a new location at the top of the new building, now under construction
in the former site where the Defense Agency used to stand
in Roppongi.
All these luxury hotels offer room rates starting
between \55,000-\70,000 a night. Is there going to be enough
demand for these giants to survive? And how are existing hotels
going to cope with all the new competition? Let's see what
happens.
