ユナイティド・キングダムは北ノルウエー海、ヨーロッパ本土、北大西洋海と西アイルランドに隣接しておりイギリス、スコットランドの島から成り立っています。イギリスには何百年前のローマ時代から長い歴史があり、イギリスの女王クイーンエリザベス二世のもと君主政治として維持していました。ですが現在、民主政治が国を動かし事実上、女王には力はありません。
はじめに知られている移民者は小さなハンターの部族で、今日イギリス島と呼ばれている島でかたまって一緒に生活をしていました。歴史的に有名な石器時代に移住者がBC４０００年あたりに移り住みだしました。その時、現在ストーンヘンジとして知られる不思議な建物が建設しました。ですが現在、ほぼ１５％のイギリス人口は田舎にすんでいます。
イギリスは世界で主要な力を持っており、すばらしい艦隊を所持しており 探検隊を送り込み、未知の土地を開拓していきました。
北米、オーストラリア、アフリカやインドなどはイギリスの植民地にされました。 イギリスは鉄、スチール生産、石炭採鉱、農業産業や自動車産業などの沢山の産業で栄えています。さらに、イギリスの小山の多い風景は羊飼育場や搾乳場の環境には完璧ですし、イギリスの大きな産業の一つでもあります。
イギリスの気候は涼しく、湿気があり北大西洋から吹いてくる風により穏やかな気温です。内陸の気温は冬の間は凍るような寒さまでにはなりませんが、夏には大体３０度ぐらいの気温になることがあります。
雨は一年を通していつ降ってもおかしくないと考えておりた方が良いでしょう。
A Brief History of England:
The United Kingdom, which consists of both England and Scottland,
is an island bordering the Norwegian Sea to the North, the
European mainland to the South, the North Sea to the East
and the North Atlantic Ocean and Ireland to the West. It has
a fruitful history dating back to the pre-Roman era. The country
still maintains a monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as its
head; however today a democratic government runs the country
and the Queen has no actual power.
The First known inhabitants of the country were tribal, small
bands of hunter gathers living together among what is now
called the British Isles. Pre-historic stone-aged groups arrived
around 4000 B.C. At this time the mysterious structure know
today as Stonehenge was constructed. Today, approximately
15% of the English population lives in the countryside.
Britain was one of the first major world powers, possessing
a great fleet of ships sending expeditions of explorers to
conquer and settle unknown lands. Modern day North America,
Australia, Africa and India were some of the countries first
colonized by the English. England has a wide variety of industries
ranging from iron and steel production to coal mining and
automobile manufacturing, to wheat and produce farming. In
addition, the hilly landscape of England makes a perfect environment
for dairy and sheep farming, another prominent English industry.
The climate in the UK is cool and damp with temperatures
moderated by winds that blow in from the North Atlantic Ocean.
Inland temperatures usually reach just below freezing during
winter and normally exceed 30 degrees Celsius in summer. Rain
can be expected throughout England much of the year.
